New Android App: MyReminders

Android , Android development , Mobile devices Add comments

When I created my first Android app, NoteToSelf, I had always intended to release a "deluxe" version with additional features.  Even though this app is essentially that deluxe version, I felt it needed a new name to reflect its most notable new feature (reminder alarms).

So this incarnation of the app comes with the following features:

  • It allows you to dictate your reminder instead of typing it via Google's speech transcription service. All you need to dictate your reminder is a network connection (celluar or WiFi) and no concerns about talking to your phone in public.

  • It gives you the choice between three different home screen widgets that let you cycle through all of your reminders and add or edit reminders via the widget.

  • It lets you schedule an alarm for those reminders that are time-sensitive. You can use the settings in the app to determine how the alarms should notify you (by default, the alarm will cause the phone to vibrate and the notification light to blink).

You can read more about the app and view several screenshots at the following URL:

Now...I did decide to charge $1 for this app in the Android Market, because I did put a lot of work into it and I think it's certainly worth that much given the functionality it provides.  However, if you're a contributing member of the ColdFusion/CFML programming community (someone who regularly shares their knowledge or their code to help others) and you have an Android phone that allows you to install non-Market applications, send me an e-mail and I'll send you the install file so you can have the app for free.

Dude, that's awesome! Congrats on entering the mobile space - it's so hot right now. I'm totally jealous :)

@Ben: Thanks! Would have replied sooner, but apparently my blog's not currently e-mailing me about posted comments. Sadly, that also apparently means I don't read my own blog. :)

I just got your app after seeing it on Android Central. I have a Droid X and I'm trying to get the widget to display the scrolling reminders. Right now it just looks like a sticky note. Thanks - this app looks great.

I just purchased myReminders for my Droid X. Nice app but.... The widget buttons are black on black, instead of black on gray as shown on screenshots at androidcentral. Can only see tiny shade of difference between button foreground/background. Also the widget does not scroll the reminders automatically, although you can manually step through them. Please advise on update/fix

Hi, I've tried eight different note apps, and so far I'm thinking you win! Though I have a suggestion that would really improve the app at least for me...
when typing or dictating, it would be nice to have a "next" feature...so if listing 10 items you don't have to keep starting over. color notes does this and it's very handy. the other improvement would be similar... to be able to check off or cross off multiple items at once....rather than editing each individually...which is time consuming. i think i'm using this more as a post it note than a reminder, which may be why it's lacking these options...but it's great both ways!
    thanks

I am enjoying the simplicity of My Reminders. Very nicely done! It is serving me as a quick "don't forget!" widget on my main Homescreen.

Hi, your myreminder app is the only of its kind on android and the ultimate app to solve my needs. i want to subscribe to it but the google check out account refuse to accept my street address as a valid address and so i can't pay by credit card. are you able to do something? or teach me how to subscribe?

I was intrigued by myreminders, especially liked the simplicity of the widget, and was ready to spring for a buck, but the market wouldn't let me buy it(!) because it decided it wasn't compatible with my phone (Nexus one running cyanogen 6.1 on tmobile, usually shows up as Android 2.2). Pretty sure it's compatible and would be glad to pay for it, but not sure how. Realize development on this may be dormant. Thnx for any help.
